PHILADELPHIA, March 22, 2023 – When James Beard Award winner Jose Garces first envisioned his popular taqueria concept Buena Onda, he did so with the intention of one day turning it into a franchise. He tapped Norristown, PA based StyerGroup to help fulfill his vision as they were already working with him on reinventing his Garces Trading Company (GTC) concept at Cira Centre, Philadelphia. “I’m truly excited because this brand, and the thought and evolution around Buena Onda was always intentional around getting to a model that could be franchised,” Garces said, noting that after over 25 years in the industry getting to this point is a ‘dream.’

At present, the StyerGroup created models for two different restaurant designs. One is a more traditional quick-service restaurant of between 1,500 and 2,200 square feet with an average of 50 to 85 seats. The other model which has been dubbed a kiosk is more compact ranging from 800 to 1,200 square feet. This type will more commonly be found within colleges, universities, sports arenas, hotels, and food courts.

The StyerGroup reimagined the existing Callowhill location as the launching step for the 114 S. 20th Street in Rittenhouse Square neighborhood of Philadelphia location and 200 N. Radnor Chester Road, Radnor location as second and third creations. A kiosk was added to Comcast 1 and Wells Fargo Centers. The décor has a similar feel to that of a summery beachside atmosphere amplified by whitewashed wood details, aquamarine ocean hue gloss millwork, sand colored solid surface counters, wire netting chairs, and sea glass high top tables. Pendant lighting and themed accents complete the design. Full kitchens with exhaust hoods, walk in freezers, pass through windows and back of house storage and restroom facilities are included. “The millwork is a work of art,” added Amy Tahtabrounian, Principal of the StyerGroup, adding “The investment of thought into design, attention to detail and creativity executed in these small spaces is kudos to the team including Garces Brand adapting to making this a stellar franchising opportunity.”
